Adam Miller was 21 years old when he enlisted at Dayton, Ohio on May 29, 1861. He served for three years in Company E, and with the Field & Staff. Adam was a very good musician. Although the second ranking musician in his company, Miller received a promotion to regimental principal musician on July 24, 1863.

Following his muster out with the regiment on June 24, 1864, Adam Miller returned to Montgomery County. In 1893, he contacted members of the 24th OVI reunion organization and reported that he was residing in Columbus, Ohio.
