John Rutherford is the author of the 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Web Page, and is writing a two volume history about the 24th O.V.I. and its veterans. Born and raised in Elmore, Ohio, he developed an interest in Civil War history after hearing a family story about the death of Captain Dewitt Clinton Wadsworth (his great-great-great grandfather) at the Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.
Mr. Rutherford is a local history assistant librarian. He has presented programs on tracing family history through military records and numerous other historical topics.
A Missouri resident since 1989, John is a "zippy-peppy" leader in several historical organizations. He is a past state commander for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, and was the committee chair for the 2001 national meeting of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Now forty-eight years old, he also enjoys sports, history, writing, and a variety of music.
