First Lieutenant James Jacques


FIRST LIEUTENANT JAMES JACQUES



James Jacques was was 21 years old when he enlisted as a private at Norwalk, Ohio on June 6, 1861. He served for three years in Company A. A young man of recognized ability, Jacques received promotions to corporal on August 6, 1861. He received an appointment as a sergeant on December 26, 1861. With battle seemingly eminent, Jacques received another appointment to the vacant first sergeant's position on August 31, 1862. Jacques proved himself such an effective leader during the regiment's march into Kentucky, that he received a backdated commission as a second lieutenant on August 11, 1862. He received another promotion to first lieutenant on May 1, 1863. He mustered out with the company on June 22, 1864.

Following his muster out, James Jacques returned to Huron County briefly, then, he and his bride, Mary, moved west. He died in Kansas City, Missouri.
